The Senior Advisor serves as support for a small group of students engaged in the college admission process. Advisors help students identify good-fit colleges, develop compelling applications. They also lend moral support as students work toward their goal of attending college.
Commitment: 5-8 hours a month for 8 months (June-January), plus required attendance at monthly student/parent meetings
Academic Tutors
Tutor students – individually or in groups – and give them that extra push to get through a challenging assignment or prepare for a test. You can have an impact as a:
Group Tutor – provide general academic assistance and homework help to small groups of students on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 8 p.m. for high school students; and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 6 p.m. for middle school students.
Commitment: 2 hours per week
Individual Tutor: Provide academic assistance in specific subject areas, while helping our students hone their basic skills, study habits, and self-confidence. Individual tutors work with an assigned student once or twice a week depending on the student’s and tutor’s schedules.
Commitment: 2-3 hours a week
Mentors
Share your academic and life experiences with a student enrolled in FCE’s College Bound and College Success programs. Mentors begin working with students in their 11th grade year and continue with them through their 1st or 2nd year in college. FCE’s mentor program is centered in relationships with our students and supporting them while they learn to explore and expand their networks.
Commitment: Academic year for 3 years; 1 hour per week
