AMRITA DEO, MA
Program Manager, College Bound
Growing up in East Palo Alto as a first-generation student, Amrita has had similar experiences to the students and families being served at FCE. Having to work through college and always being interested in working with youth, Amrita was an after-school instructor for another local nonprofit. She worked with low-income students and families where she developed her classroom management skills and nonprofit experience. After completing her undergraduate degree at San Jose State University, she transitioned into working in their college access program for almost two years before returning to earn her master’s at SJSU.
In her new role at Foundation for a College Education, Amrita manages 11th grade programming and preparing juniors for the college application process and season before 12th grade. Having focused on first-generation college students during her master’s program, the college application process is a critical time where students do college research to create their lists, begin the essay writing process, and take advantage of extracurricular opportunities. All of which will lead to deciding on a college where students feel they will thrive the most and meet their needs as a student.
