FCE 2024 Southern California College Tours!
High School College BoundDear FCE Community,
FCE was thrilled to embark on another Southern California college tour. 18 FCE students visited UC Riverside, Pitzer, USC, CSU University Dominguez Hills, CSU Long Beach, UCLA, and Loyola Marymount University. It was an amazing experience for all!
At USC, College Success student Aline Garcia-Sanchez gave a tour of the Rocket Propulsion Lab where she participates in student-run undergraduate research, one of the many projects she is involved in on campus. At UCLA, FCE College Bound students were joined by College Success student, Juanita Gomez, as she organized a student panel of current UCLA undergraduates to share their experiences on a competitive campus such as UCLA, taking advantage of school resources, exploring majors, and navigating college as first-generation college students of color.
We are grateful to our community for making these tours possible, and to our staff and College Success students for their support, as our College Bound students continue to pursue their dream of obtaining a college degree.
With gratitude,
Elizabeth Wells
Executive Director
Student Testimonial
“I learned so much from the tour whether it be from my peers, panelists, or staff. I am very grateful and thankful for this opportunity. We build a community within FCE and am glad I met so many incredible people while doing so.”
“Colleges are not all the same, and being on a campus, talking with students, or sitting in on a class or a lab gives students a better sense of what they will experience as a college student, and how to differentiate one college from another, even if they are similar. San Francisco State is very different from Long Beach State, and students should see, feel, and experience these differences firsthand. Also, most students will be going to colleges where they will live away from home. FCE’s college tours give students, some of whom have never spent the night away from home, the opportunity to have that experience as well. One of the reasons that FCE students do so well in college is that they choose the college or university that is the best fit for them. College tours are one important component of helping students and families make that choice.”
